Macduff is an ideal base to discover the beauty of the Moray Firth Coast and the wider north east of Scotland. 

Miles of coastal walking and cycling trails cover sandy beaches, sand dunes and rocky coves, and venture inland towards woodland landscapes and hills offering stunning viewpoints.

Features along the coastline include Tarlair Swimming Pool, a now disused lido built in Art Deco style, which is currently undergoing revamp to bring it back into use as a community facility. 

Wildlife is abundant locally, from birds to seals, and it’s not uncommon to spot dolphins and the occasional whale in the bays nearby too.  Wildlife cruises and fishing trips are available seasonally from Macduff harbour.  Fishing enthusiasts will also find plenty fish in nearby lochs and rivers.

The award-winning Macduff Marine Aquarium showcases the marine life of the Moray Firth, a great attraction for young and old alike.  The Aquarium’s central kelp exhibit is unique in Britain, and other displays include a splash tank, touch pools and ray pool. Don’t miss the daily fish feeding by divers in the main tank too.  

History, heritage and culture is plentiful too. Step back to years gone by with a visit to some of our many stately homes and castles.  Duff House in Banff is a treasure house with an extraordinary history which also now hosts masterpieces from the National Galleries of Scotland.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy surfing, with classes available at Banff and Sandend, or cold water swimming which has grown in popularity.  If you prefer indoors, Deveron Swimming and Sports Centre in Banff offers an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and sports courts.

Golfers can enjoy two 18 hole golf courses close by – Duff House Royal and Royal Tarlair.  Myrus Driving Range, a 13-bay driving range with a coffee shop, is situated adjacent to Myrus Holiday Park with walk through access.

In the winter and darker months, from around October to March, it’s common to spot the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, locally. 

Travelling further afield across Aberdeenshire and Moray, you can find an array of attractions and trails including the famous Speyside Whisky Trail, castle trails, and characterful villages and towns with lots to offer.
